He recently came out with a Spik'eze special Nike sneaker, which he called a "best of" past Air Jordan sneaker designs. "It's flying off the shelves," he said. Lee is in postproduction on his next film, a World War II drama "Miracle at St. Anna" about black American soldiers fighting Germans in Italy starring John Turturro, James Gandolfini, Derek Luke, Michael Ealy and Laz Alonso. I noted that this sounds like a big budget film. "It looks like $100 million," he said. It comes out in October. During a talk on stage, he talked about how the movie landscape for African Americans has changed in 20 years. "There was only one black director when I got out of film school. Every time a black film came out, it was an event. Today, Tyler Perry has a film out every week." He also said Morehouse graduates too many business majors, too many people taking jobs simply for the money, not for the love of the job.

Staging dims power of Britten's British tragedy
How much: $15-$375; call (212) 362-6000 or visit metopera.org. NEW YORK -- Benjamin Britten saw small-town life as ideal in many ways. Yet, as both an avowed pacifist during wartime and a more or less openly gay man in mid-century Britain, the composer saw the danger of not "fitting in." Beyond orchestral and choral music of roiling power, part of what makes Britten's 1945 opera "Peter Grimes" timeless is that the friction between individuality and community, between the potential for good and ill in each, will always be contemporary. Moreover, the blame in this tragedy is ambiguous, shifting according to interpretation. The Metropolitan Opera's new staging of "Peter Grimes," directed by Tony Award-winning Scotsman John Boyle in his Met debut, succeeds in its evocation of stark atmosphere and of those fundamental social tensions.
Norwegian broadcaster: P2P experiment "extremely positive"
Solheim said in an interview (republished on NRK's blog in English) that the experience will likely "clear the rights for this kind of distribution of more content." Since the experiment's inception just over a month ago, Nordkalotten 365 has been downloaded over 90,000 times—shocking to NRK, since Norway is a small country of only 4.6 million. Not only that, but the people downloading have been good torrenters too. The files have had ratios close to 95 percent, which Solheim said saved license fee payers 95 percent of all distribution costs. "People are happily seeding the files," Solheim said. There was also less resistance to the project than he thought, once the network was able to get the message across that BitTorrent isn't "illegal." Solheim said that the managers of Nordkalotten 365 were surprisingly open to the idea, even composing their own music to avoid dealing with licensing fees.
Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Vista, left, and Rep. Brian Bilbray, R-Solana ...
I'll calling for a public debate on illegal immigration, and want to invite Ed Sifuentes, Bill Flores from El Grupo, Ruben Navarrette Jr., Ed Morones, and leaders of the local chapters of MEChA and NCLR. I would also like to invite Duncan Hunter, Brian Bilbray, and other media representative as well. In fact I challenge the NCT to put this together for the next Latino Roundtable, so that me and many other concerned Americans can confront this issue. How about it Ed, are you game? This is a joke right? wrote on Feb 16, 2008 12:06 AM:They say it will only be a 'few bad apples?' This is a joke, right? Of course the aliens are complaining about a six month wait (while they collect welfare albeit), cause they don't want their criminal record to pop up before they get their GET IN FREE CARD! Instead, give them a get outta dodge card, don't pass go, don't collect another $200 in this further downgrading of "America".

Mona Shores to replace 600 computers
MONA SHORES — More new technology is on tap for the students of Mona Shores Public Schools. The district plans to replace 600 desktop computers in labs districtwide this summer, completing improvements funded with a 0.65-mill, $4.2 million bond issue approved by voters in 2005. The district has spent $3.8 million in technology upgrades and new buses so far, and will spend another $400,000 on the computers this summer. The millage proceeds have paid for improvements to security (such as surveillance cameras, motion detection and doors), six new buses and new technology such as a phone system, desktop and laptop computers, digital video equipment and digital cameras. The district has invested heavily in technology through the past decade because officials said they believe it's an essential part of quality instruction for students.
