Kos Defends Coulter

Can a cheap headline featuring hot-button words "Kos" and "Coulter" goose a blogger's hit count? The stats are in and the answer is ... unfortunately ... yes. ... P.S.: But the hed does refer to an actual item, which is here. 11:55 A.M.

Kos mocks Sen. Lieberman for naming his ad hoc independent party "Connecticut for Lieberman:"

It's still about him. It's always about him.

Hmm. What's the name of Kos's site again? Daily Netroots? Daily People Power? ... [Stolen from reader C.] 5:39 P.M.

New Latino Wave Helps Revitalize Detroit

Gang violence was rampant and the housing stock crumbled.

"It wasn't a neighborhood where you could walk down the street," Southwest Detroit Business Association deputy director Edith J. Castillo said. "Now, you can actually walk down West Vernor. You can take your family out for ice cream after church."

Castillo's nonprofit is one of several working with city officials and businesses to resurrect the area.

More than $200 million has been invested in southwest Detroit in the past 15 years, which has attracted retail and new homes, including an $11 million condo development.

"It's one of the few places in the city where you are seeing a lot of private investment," said Olga Savic, of the Detroit Economic Growth Corp., the city's public/private development arm.

Is U.S. Religious Landscape Resembling Europe's?

The unaffiliated category includes atheists and agnostics, but is mostly made up of respondents who said they were nothing in particular (12.1 percent).

More than a third of those unaffiliated said that although they have no particular religion, they at least find religion to be somewhat important to very important in their personal life.

Let me underscore again one of the significant findings of the unaffiliated, said Greg Smith, research fellow of the Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life. A high percentage of them said religion is still important to them, about six percent of the American public as a whole.

In future studies, Smith said the group will see if the United States is experiencing the religious phenomenon that is already quite common in Europe believing without belonging.

Stretching the limits of thermoplastic elastomers

Alistair Rae reviews some of the most recent developments and looks at a selection of applications that can benefit from this expanding class of materials.

Thermoplastic elastomers are remarkably versatile, either used on their own or overmoulded to provide tactile or functional features on components moulded from other polymers. Material properties can vary considerably from one grade to the next, with the difference being down to the chemistry and the presence of filler materials or additives.

One of the major advantages of thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) materials today is that, unlike their vulcanised rubber counterparts, they can be recycled and reused. Modern TPEs are relatively easy to process by moulding, extruding and blow moulding, and the availability of clear grades means that they are found in a wide variety of applications.

Rumps enjoy taste of success

The defense has never been better this season; the depth has never been more of a factor. "It's surreal because we expected something bad to happen," Ryan said. "It had always happened before. Aquinas was snakebitten. There was a lot of success and heartbreak down there. It just didn't happen to us this year. "We knew we had the potential this year, but a lot of the pressure was self-inflicted," Ryan said. "But we finally closed the deal. We finally had the excitement and satisfaction of getting to the pinnacle. It was relief. I've slept pretty comfortably since that win." Rich doesn't say much on the bench. He's more the strong-silent type, willing to offer his input any time Ryan asks for it, which is often. He's not even listed on the team's program. Yet, he's the perfect complement to Ryan's X's and O's mentality.
