Sanyo's High-End Camcorder Boxes You In
Sometimes things just don't work out the way they're supposed to. Take, for example, this review of Sanyo'sSANYY Xacti HD 1000 digital movie camera. I brought it along with me to test under real working conditions -- at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, last month. The idea was that my producer-cinematographer Dee Robinson would shoot me with his professional Panasonic camera (with a Leica lens) -- and I would shoot him shooting me using the Sanyo HD1000. Both of us would shoot in full HD. In the Sanyo's case, that means 1920 by 1080 pixels. The Panasonic was also set at full 1080i. The plan was for Dee to edit everything together when we got home. Notice I wrote that in the past tense. That's because we couldn't edit anything together. Actually, we couldn't even see the Sanyo's video on any of our AppleAAPL Mac or Windows computers.
Mesa centers will offer retail, office, living
Together, the proposed Red Mountain Commons, Val Vista Retail Center and another unnamed center will bring to market nearly 800,000 square feet of space, roughly the size of a regional mall. At 427,000 square feet, Val Vista Retail Center, planned at the southeast corner of Val Vista Drive and Thomas Road is by far the largest of the three developments. Plans call for an undetermined anchor store, such as a JC Penny or Target. "We're out there right now combing the earth for potential anchors at this point," said Charles Carlise, president of Phoenix-based De Rito Partners Development, which is buying the property. De Rito is also planning several smaller "junior" anchors, ranging from 10,000 to 20,000 square feet, and smaller, infill retail stores.
NHL around the league notebook
Slowly, as the Chicago Blackhawks continue to improve, the fans are coming back to cheer on the Original Six club. Wednesday night's 5-2 victory over the Nashville Predators drew a crowd of 20,511- the first sellout of the season at the United Center. The win was Chicago's fourth in a row. "There's confidence in the locker-room, no matter who's in the lineup," Nikolai Khabibulin told the Chicago Tribune as the 'Hawks played without injured star winger Martin Havlat. "In a game like tonight we didn't play our best game but we made the big plays when we really needed it. As soon as they scored a goal we got one right back, they scored another one, we got it right back. The guys are playing with a lot of confidence." Chicago took another hit though, as defenceman James Wisniewski injured a knee in a fight and will be out for four to six weeks.
Thousands cheer Hillary Clinton in Bay Area
I don't think any of us could have imagined that all of the work, all of the sacrifice, all of the commitment that has moved our country ... could have been so symbolized by the two of us, standing there, debating, trying to become the Democratic nominee and the president of our great country." In San Francisco, Clinton was joined by Mayor Gavin Newsom and Oakland Mayor Ron Dellums, who said Clinton showed a powerful feeling for simple justice. The predominately female crowd cheered when the senator conceded that as a young girl she never would have dreamed she would have a chance to become president. "No matter what happens," she said, "after last night's debate, you can look at a child and say, 'Yes, you can be anything you want to be in this country we care so much about." In San Jose, mariachis strolled the crowd, trumpets blaring, serenading Clinton's supporters into a joyous mood.
Soundtrack 1.0
Apple's Soundtrack made its debut last June, as part of the massive video-editing bundle Final Cut Pro 4. But now the same Soundtrack software is available as a stand-alone product. This puts Soundtrack within reach of video editors, Web designers, and content providers who don't need the rest of the Final Cut Pro 4 package. Soundtrack 1.0.1 is a fun program based on sound loops. It lets you quickly create original, royalty-free music for video and multimedia projects. It requires at least a 500MHz Power Mac, Mac OS X 10.2.5, and 5GB of available hard-drive space. Apple's official specs say that you can install the program with a CD and that the sound loops, called Apple Loops, on the included DVD are optional, but this isn't really the case. Soundtrack's entire appeal lies in the fact that it lets you mix and match the 4GB of material it provides.
Transcribing in Linux: Easy As 1, 2, 3...
I'm fairly sure that this is not open source software. My reasoning for stating this, since I have yet to see anything even close to Express Scribe, in the open source world as of yet. Much like MainActor is to those who want entry level software for decent video editing, I see Express Scribe as filling this same need, and perhaps even hitting a more important piece of the Linux puzzle. read more iTALC promotes learning on a classroom network iTALC, or Intelligent Teaching and Learning with Computers, is a didactical tool designed to assist teachers. Despite its name, the tool itself isn't a learning environment. It's meant to let teachers control their students' computers in a computer-driven classroom setting. Thanks to its powerful remote desktop control features, simple setup, and lack of cost, it's a potential remote assistance tool for any type of network.
